Yıldıray ÖZBİR

Mr. Özbir graduated from the Department of Physics of the Faculty of Science of the Istanbul University in 1968. He was also an assistant at the Department of physics during 1968.

After two years of military service, he joined in 1970, the Department of Nuclear Engineering at the Çekmece Nuclear Researchand Training Center in Istanbul (ÇNAEM). Until 1981, he was a member of the Project Group for the application and development of nuclear power reactors core calculations. He also carried out theoretical studies on automatic emergency core cooling systems of nuclear power reactor in case of a loss of coolant accident.

Between 1981 and 1986, for 6 years, he served as the Assistant Section Head of Technical Works Section of ÇNAEM. He was in charge of carrying out the modernization projects of the ÇNAEM’s infrastructure, especially the central heating modernization and expansion. During these years, he was also the Accruals Chief of the ÇNAEM.

Mr. Özbir was transfered to ÇNAEM’s Physics Section in 1986. He realized the design, the local construction and the setup of an mechanical and pneumatic experimental assembly for the only linear accelerator in existence in Turkey then. He has taken a very active part in the design of the systems’ electronics and the preparation of computer programs necessary to control the accelerator and run time-of-flight experiments to determine the microscopic nuclear cross sections. This experimental setup was used extensively in Turkish and foreign research projects, resulting in numerous research papers and leading to many awards. In 2008, because of the age limit, he went on retirement. After retiring he worked, in private; on his own projects on mechanical devices, his preferred field. He owns tens of patents and useful models. Mr. Özbir received promotions and encouragement awards of the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK).

He has a good command of English.

He is married and has a daughter and son.
