Dr. Necmi DAYDAY

Dr. Necmi Dayday, earned a Masters degree (Cum Laude) in Nuclear Engineering at the Technical University of Istanbul (1969), a second M.Sc. degree in reactor physics at the Institute National des Sciences et Techniques Nucleaires (1971), Saclay, France and a PhD. degree (High Honor) in reactor physics at the Faculté de Science, Centre d'Orsay Universite Paris-Sud (1973), France.

From 1969 thru 1978 he was senior research staff at the nuclear engineering department of the Turkish Atomic Energy Commission (TAEK) Çekmece Nuclear Research and Education Centre (ÇNAEM) in Istanbul. He served as a member of the TAEK Nuclear Safety Committee and Nuclear Power Plant Site Selection Committee (1975- 1978). He has taken an active part in the selection process of Akkuyu, Sinop and İğneada nuclear power plants (NPPs) sites.

Between 1974-1978, as the head of the TR-2 Research Reactor Project Core Design and Construction Unit, he carried out and directed the core calculations and engineering design works. He was a member of the TAEK Research Reactor Tender Committee. He was also member of a number of other TAEK’s committees. During these years he also taught graduate level nuclear physics at Istanbul Technical University Nuclear Energy Institute and modern physics at the Turkish Air Force Academy.

He is the author of a book on reactor physics problems published by Nuclear Energy Institute of Istanbul Technical University in 1975.

Accepting a job offer made by the IAEA, joined the Agency’s Department of Research and Isotopes, Division of Research and Laboratories in 1978. Dr. Dayday transferred to the Department of Safeguards in 1982 and was appointed Safeguards Evaluator and Unit Head for Reactor- Type Facilities (RTFs) Evaluation Unit in 1984 at the Safeguards Effectiveness Evaluation Section. From 1984 thru 1996 he was a senior safeguards analyst. He was also in charge of the preparation of the SIR (Safeguards Implementation Report) for RTFs. During his service at the IAEA, Dr. Dayday has carried out hundreds of safeguards inspections in all types of nuclear facilities world wide.

He shared in the 2005 Nobel Peace Prize that was awarded to the IAEA.

He retired from the IAEA and returned to Turkey in 1998.

In 2004 he joined the Faculty of Engineering and Technology of Galatasaray University in Istanbul, where he taught physics, thermodynamics, mechanics and electromagnetics. He retired, upon age limit, from the university in May 2008.

Dr Dayday is the Founding President and Chairman of the Board of Directors of NUTEK Energy Consulting Technology and Industry Inc. founded in July 2014.

During his professional career, he organized and actively participated in national and international seminars, summer schools, conferences and training courses on nuclear energy, safeguards, security, international and legal aspects of nuclear energy.

Dr. Dayday received the highly prestigious TASAM (Turkish Asian Strategic Research Center) Award for “Scientist with Strategic Vision” in 2006. He is a Board Member and Project Manager of TASAM Since 2007.

He is a member of several national and international scientific and technical Professional and social associations.

Dr. Dayday speaks English and French fluently, and has a fair command of German.
